Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

A few days ago I used the Carbon Footprint Calculator to estimate my carbon footprint. Even though my carbon footprint was less than the average footprint for people in my area, it was still way bigger than the sustainable carbon footprint, so I’m trying to find ways to reduce the size of my carbon footprint and live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. I tend to leave my computer and my kindle plugged in all the time, even when they’re fully charged. But now I’ve started unplugging my devices unless I’m actually using them. Also, I’m going to try to start line-drying my clothes so that I can use the dryer less when cleaning my clothes. A lot of the things I do I don’t think I realized until now that they were contributing to my carbon footprint, so I’m going to be looking at lot more closely at the things I do and trying to determine if there is a more environmentally friendly way to do these things.
