Social Media
There is no doubt that the majority of individuals in our age group use applications that fit the category of a “social media medium” on a daily basis. Some that quickly come to mind are Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and so on. But of course, utilising something everyday will have direct side effects on you. These include over-obsession over numbers and overconsumption. For example, seeing a post of someone popular wearing a shirt you kind of like could lead you to buying it when you didn’t even need it for a good reason. Furthermore, the two aforementioned side effects do contribute to the increasement of unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions. Over-obsession or, to put it bluntly, addiction, causes an expand in electricity waste as you log on into your “socials” more and more often. Unless you use renewable energy for your devices, that’s a lot of fossil fuel burning for something as superficial as the number of likes on your latest picture. Overconsumption clearly ties into wasteful production of unnecessary resources. What do you guys think?
