Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How to leave less of a student footprint

AndyD

I have a few ways to leave less of a carbon footprint. Let's start with the easy one, #1 using less light to light up in the room and buy eco-friendly lightbulbs like LED lightbulbs. They can resist hot and cold temperatures and use less energy. Another fun thing is that you can change the colors with an app or a remote (depends on what the product comes with). #2, Shop at second-hand or sustainable shops. Second-hand shops are cheaper, unlike fast fashion clothes, they're made with labor and low-quality materials and sold for a high price because of branding. Throwing clothes in a landfill also requires energy. Buying second-hand keeps clothes out of landfills and uses less energy. #3, walk to certain places instead of driving. It's obvious that driving is faster and convenient, but for example, driving to places and going to another place that is RIGHT next to the first place you were at is just wasting gas and leaving a carbon footprint. It's unearthly because walking there shouldn't be harmful. So all I'm saying is use your gas wisely and walk often more!
