Wants or Needs?

Is having the latest technology a want or a need?

How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants vs. Needs

FredOgston

I personally believe that needs are things without which, you will literally die or be severely harmed. Most things in life are wants, and these vary in degree, from “oh I kind of wish I had that” to “this thing is a central part of my entire life and I must get it now” If everyone ignored all of their wants, life would be terrible, but people would still live. This would be the ideal situation from an environmental standpoint, but it is better to find a balance where some wants are satisfied, but carbon footprint is a consideration.

I agree that needs are thing we actually need to survive and live. But mostly we want things which ultimately we can live without and could help improve our environment if we lived with out these items. We definitely could find a balance with all our "wants" but I think we need to consider taking out all our "wants" over time to create a healthier environment than rather than find a balance and somewhat consider how these things affect our carbon footprint. We need a big change!

I believe that wants and are hard for some people to balance out. Our lives are driven by needs vs wants. Needs are things that we need to live and wants could be anything that doesn't help us survive on a daily basis. Many people who want new things such as a new MP3 player will not think of the environmental issues, they are solely driven by satisfy their want for it. We can break this addiction by releasing what it does to the environment and learning how to balance wants and needs.
