Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

purchase of consumer goods
I feel that the constant buying of consumer goods is a popular habit for people. The promoting of new technologies, clothing trends constantly changing, and so on are all materialistic products that humans feel the need to purchase on impulse. For instance, one could have a phone that is completely functionable, yet feel the need to purchase the newest one and do not realize the harmful means of production and ridding of these items. New trends of clothing emerge, and one grows tired of or feels that their current clothes are not good anymore, so as a result, new clothes are bought. Majority of apparel is made from unsustainable material and is created through processes that degrade our environment and its natural supply. One way to lessen your footprint is buying used technology or thrifting clothes, which I would like to do more often, rather than spending money on unsustainable clothing. Overall, I feel we purchase more material goods that we don't need, but rather desire, which develops a cycle of high consumption that has a negative environmental impact.
