Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Students and Countries

I see a difference across the globe regarding school's and student's footprints. I think that that there are a lot of factors that go into the differences in the footprints in different countries. For example, some of the places I looked at on the map were small islands. Small islands would obviously have smaller numbers that the United States, a big country. The population of the country effects the students footprints. Also, in some places like, a school in a city, the transportation would be mostly subways and public transportation. Mine however, is not public transportation. Lastly, countries and schools with students who are more educated about the environment and climate change will have a lower footprint.
