Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint

Hollyjb

This calculator of my carbon footprint was very eye opening because, although I was much below the United States average, I was still higher than the global average.  It really put into perspective the things I do in my daily life that either increase/decrease my carbon footprint.  Also with the pandemic, my footprint is less because I am not driving as much so I want to be more aware going forward of when I can say, bike or walk instead of driving a car.  I also was unaware the ways that my home system and lights contributed to my carbon footprint, and now I am more aware of when I am using such things and when its not necessary.  I definitely enjoyed learning about this and would love to take it a year from now, to see any choices I made or changes that could have lessened my footprint.  Some actions I am going to take now are reducing the amount of trash, driving less, and using natural light over indoor lights when I can.

I completely agree, my results were the same. I think this experience was really eye-opening to how my actions affect the planet. I think it's safe to say I will definitely be more cautious with my actions now. I hope others took away as much as we did and change some things in their routine or try new things out to help the environment.
