Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How your diet can affect the environment

After seeing my results, I plan on eating more local foods and maybe even starting an at-home garden in my backyard! Also, one of my resolutions for this year was to cut my meat intake, and after learning that it takes around 660 gallons of water to make one hamburger patty, I have stuck to it even more. I am actively educating myself and becoming more conscious of what I eat and how it affects the environment overall.

I too am also trying to eat more local foods after seeing my results. I have also stopped eating out as much (excluding Panera) and am trying to eat less red meat. I think my results let me see how much I have an impact on the environment around me and I would like to do as much for the environment as I can.

I have also been considering dropping dairy/meat after what we recently learned. It'd be interesting to see the difference in our carbon footprint after doing so.
