Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

New ideas to cut down on our footprints

tompaul04

Students in 2020 are living in a new era. We are learning new ways to help save the environment and cut down on the amount of greenhouse gasses we emit. As a college student it is very hard to step away from your comfort of the way you live now but there’s some different ways to help the environment instead of changing your whole routine. Some easy ways would be to stop using paper to take notes, instead use a laptop or phone. Also after you’re done buying something like food and you get a receipt, ask for a digital one or an email instead. Also one last way to cut down would be to not use a plastic straw in your drinks. Most of the time you don’t even need a straw anyways but if you do it is very cheap to get a reusable one. Paper is very bad for the environment because it is littering the streets of our cities and it takes a lot of energy to make and the factories emit a lot of pollution just for a couple sheets of paper. Also it comes from trees and companies destroy many trees in order to make them which causes the destruction of habitats and ecosystems. This video shows some new easy ways to help cut down on carbon emissions as a college student if you need some different ideas.

I feel as though that reusing our plastic bottles, or just having a dedicated water bottle at home could really impact our carbon footprint.
