Artificial meat

I know that this port ably isn’t the first idea that comes to mind for a huge idea when it comes to reducing carbon, but producing artificial beef and other proteins could really help reduce CO2 emissions. As many people know, methane is produced from primarily cows, as well as other farm animals such as pigs. Then, through a chemical reaction in the atmosphere, methane becomes CO2. Recently, scientists have discovered a way to use the cells of these animals to grow meat that is edible. So if this becomes widespread in the near future, you could have a nice steak that did not come from a cow being killed. This would lessen the need for so many cows in our society. I am aware that milk is still a priority, but breeding cows just to be killed would be unnecessary, so it would reduce the methane impacts from cows. And, if researchers and scientists find a way to do this same process with other animals that produce methane, the effects would be very good in regard to reducing the carbon footprint.

I meant to put “probably” at the start, I guess autocorrect didn’t like that for some reason! Sorry for the inconvenience.

I agree that this has enormous potential.  Even if a laboratory grown "nice steak" would be unconvincing to carniovores, there are so many products made from ground meat, etc, and I am sure that the lab grown meat would be indistinguishable in most of those contexts

I'm mostly vegan, and while I don't really "miss" meat, I would be really interested to try a hamburger from lab grown animal cells.

What about you, SmallChili: do you east meat and if there were lab grown meat would you choose that instead?

I haven’t thought much about the idea of artificial meat, but I agree that it has a lot of potential. I eat meat almost every meal, not really my choice, but I could still do more about it. I personally have been a part of the process of raising animals, usually chickens, for slaughter, and have been taught that they’re just animals and they’re specifically bred to be eaten. Sometimes I would really like for none of those animals to have to die. Alas, its meat, and its one of the most accessible and easy ways to get all the nutrition we need. Lab grown meat would be a welcome change for me. These days, they can probably make anything taste real/good, so why not? I would definitely choose to eat artificial meat if it was an option for me.

Hodin, I do eat meat frequently in my diet, and especially after analyzing the impact of methane on the environment and additionally the killing of many animals for meat, I would definitely choose to use this lab grown meat, as it would me feel better about my impact on the environment and the animals raised for slaughter.

I agree with the idea of artificial meat. I think this is a great idea because let alone the meat industry being bad for the environment its also just  a very toxic environment. The owners aren’t always kind to the animals and its just morally wrong. So i think this will reduce that and help the environment immensely.
