Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint
- My carbon footprint is 10,811 kgs per year.
- My carbon footprint is lower than the average in North Carolina but is higher than the average in the world.
- My footprint is lower than the average because I don't watch TV, my family does a decent job at recycling, and we conserve a lot of energy through habits like unplugging things that are not being used or turning off the lights when leaving (I almost never have my lights on so that's a thing). It is higher because we use a lot of technology. We have a home phone, a camera (for my dog), game consoles, and phones that are constantly on & being charged (not mine). There is almost always at least one light on in the house.
- I can reduce my carbon footprint by not leaving my phone charging overnight, recycling or reusing, such as water bottles or papers that come through the mail, not leaving my lamp on for 5 hours, or have music playing for 6 hours. My dog eats my leftovers - reduce, reuse, & recycle, as they say.
