Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How I can reduce my Carbon Footprint

jakrBOD

My carbon footprint calculator results showed me that I was below the average person living in California, however also above the average person in the world. I know that if I had calculated my carbon footprint a year ago it would have been much higher given that transportation can make up to 25% or more of an individual's carbon footprint. This is because almost none of my carbon footprint was from transportation. Because of COVID-19, factors such as driving to school are not factors anymore. Also, if it is possible for me to get to a location by biking or walking, then that is my first go-to option. One thing that I paid close attention to is how much of my carbon footprint is made up of water use. As a person who likes to take long showers, I am now aware of the effect it has and I can try to reduce my shower time. One thing that was brought to my attention was the fact that my family is already doing things to reduce our carbon footprint and I didn't even know it. For example, we try to use our own containers for food as much as possible. Just this alone helped reduce my carbon footprint by a significant amount. One last thing I noticed that helped reduce my carbon footprint was regarding my purchases. The calculator made me think about how my family and I recycle things at home after purchasing them, and I was happy to see that we do a very good job of it. In conclusion, this calculator made me realize the steps I need to take to reduce my carbon footprint, and the steps I am already taking.

I also was below the average person, and above the average person in the world. I agree with this person because I, too, would've had more of a carbon footprint last year. I usually walk or bike places now.
