Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Reducing my Carbon footprint

hehaBOD

After doing the carbon footprint calculator I realised my carbon footprint is way bigger than I thought. The biggest contributor was food because I tend to eat a lot of meat products. A way I can reduce this is by eating less meat especially beef and drinking less dairy products. I can also start growing some of my own food in my garden. I can also replace eating beef with chicken.

I like that you mentioned growing food in your own garden. That's a great idea and my grandparents actually already grow their own fruits and vegetables so it would be good to start doing it with my family. I also noticed that for me one of my biggest contributors that caused my carbon footprint to go over the average was my meat consumption too and I think this is a realistic thing I can fix by trying to eat less meat but more specifically the ones that leave behind a greater carbon footprint. Another large contributor to my carbon footprint was how little I compost which is another reasonable thing I can work on by creating a compost bin and composting fruit peels and vegetables waste.
