Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How I can reduce my Carbon Footprint?

miwhBOD

My carbon footprint is 9,203kgs of CO2. The average amount of carbon for my region is 9,727. My carbon footprint doesn't exceed the average, but I still feel like this a large amount for my small family. In order to reduce the amount of carbon my family and I distribute, we would have to focus on our most troublesome categories. Food and Transportation are big problem areas for my family. I have already brainstormed and took action in some ideas to decrease the amount of carbon I distribute in those categories. As a family we use compost buckets for our food scraps, but we need to focus on eating more vegetables and recycling. I figured for recycling I could reuse bags when I go to the grocery store, or any store for that matter, or if I have a small amount of groceries I could hold them. Food is the easier factor to decrease for my family and I, while transportation is a little more of a struggle, but not impossible. I have already started to decrease my amount of transportation by moving in with my grandmother for the week. During the school week I would drive from Benicia to Oakland twice a day from home to school and vice versa. My grandmother lives in Oakland so moving in with her decreases the amount of driving across the bridge, as well as gas and carbon distribution. It might take some team effort, but I can help reduce my carbon footprint.
