Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Thoughts On My Carbon Footprints

avboBOD

I was very surprised at my carbon footprint. I always thought that the use of carbon was mainly the use of electricity. I know I use a lot of electricity because of all my electronics. But I did not know that there are other things that play a factor in carbon usage. What you eat plays a factor in the use of carbon as well. My family eats a lot of red meat. As a matter of fact that is the thing we eat the most. But I was really shocked that this leads to carbon use. I was also shocked that buying new clothes a lot contributes to carbon use. I do not buy new clothes a lot. But it was just shocking to me that things we do everyday uses carbon. Out of the two things that I said surprised me but there is still one thing that really shocked me. That was garbage. My family goes through a lot of garbage because we always have amazon packages coming in and just packaging from the food we buy. But I was really shocked that this leads to a lot of carbon use. As a matter of fact this was the thing that had the most carbon use. I feel bad for using this much carbon in the world so what are some ways I can decrease the number of my carbon use? Well I was think I could learn to put my electronics down. I do use my computer but instead I can go outside and play basketball. In this way I am not using carbon but also being active. As for red meat. I can educate my parents on how much carbon we are using by eating red meat. We can start to lower how much red meat we eat and replace that with another type of protein. As for shopping I can save my money and not spend it all on amazon. Lastly, garbage. I can go to my local farmers market and get foods there. This way you are going to prevent getting packaging from the food and supporting local business. Another way I can find products that are compostable so they go back to the environment. These are my thoughts on my carbon footprints and ways I can lower that number.
