Tools to track the 2025 Washington State legislative session:

Washington State Capitol, Olympia, WA

The 2025 Washington state legislative session is nearing a crucial turning point. This Friday, February 28th, is the deadline for proposed legislation to be voted out of policy committee. If the proposed legislature does not pass out of committee by Friday, it does not have a chance to pass this legislative session.

However, tracking legislation as it moves through various committees and checkpoints can be confusing. Thankfully, there is a free website called LegiScan that aggregates publicly available data and presents it in a straightforward manner.  While this information is freely available on the Washington State Legislature website, the website itself is not very intuitive. Consequently, LegiScan collects and organizes the information so you can view the progress of bills at a glance and easily filter by legislation type and current status. You can easily see the sponsors of the bills, next scheduled action, results of roll call votes, and more. In short, check out the LegiScan Washington State 2025 Legislative Session tracker!

Hello SSW Community!

As we navigate the new year and all that’s to come, we at the Writing Center want to remind you that writing is a powerful tool we can utilize in advocating for ourselves and our communities, calling folks in, and creating the change we want to see in the world. In the words of the great James Baldwin “You write in order to change the world … if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it”. It is an honor to be your tutors and peers in this work and we are here to support your writing journey in any way we can, including personal or community projects. Don’t hesitate to book an in-person or virtual 50-minute session with a writing tutor today!

Hello from the Writing Center!

As we work our way to the end of a long quarter, we wanted to acknowledge and extend our warm gratitude to all of you: both the students and faculty we’ve worked with, but also the peers and allies and comrades we’ve found in community over the past several weeks. For those of you looking forward to the holidays next week, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day or Native American Heritage Day and a moment of rest and rejuvenation, however that might look for you.

Building Community Power at SSW

As we look to the future, the writing tutors are energized by building community power across cohorts in the School of Social Work. An important step in that direction is contributing your voice to ongoing discussions about the role of social workers and social work institutions. One way to let your voice be heard is by participating in the upcoming Community Forum at the School of Social Work on November 18th, from 6-8 PM, in Room 305B
