Winter Courses to Check Out from the UW Career & Internship Center

Winter Course – Career Exploration & Planning (Gen St 297).  Taught by the UW Career & Internship Center.  Geared towards first- and second-year students. Students will:

  • Understand how personal characteristics, e.g., interests, values, and skills influence career development
  • Identify appropriate academic major, occupational, and/or employment alternatives in relation to personal characteristics
  • Use a variety of information resources to explore academic major, occupational, and/or employment options
  • Understand career development theories and use decision-making skills for life/career planning and management
  • Understand how to formulate action plans and strategies for implementing life/career goals

Winter Course – Online Internship Reflection Course (Gen St 350).  Taught by the Career & Internship Center and the Community Engagement Leadership Education Center.  Students participating in internships during winter quarter who also enroll for this course will:

  • Set measurable goals and develop a plan to achieve them
  • Identify how their internship relates to their academic courses and major (if applicable)
  • Communicate in a workplace environment in a clear and confident manner
  • Evaluate their own performance, accept feedback from others, and embark upon change based on internal and external feedback
  • Articulate their experience and skills to potential employers
  • Identify and articulate next steps in their career trajectory
  • Communicate effectively in an online environment, with an emphasis on coherent, concise, and respectful dialogue

Winter Course – Applying to Health Professional School (Gen St 297).  Taught by the Career & Internship Center.  Geared towards seniors who will be applying to health professional programs this coming year.  Students will:

  • Identify salient criteria for choosing target schools
  • Articulate personal fit with their health profession of interest
  • Prepare a compelling application to a health professional program
