Participating Faculty

Dr. Lagunoff is a co-PI of PREP and runs the journal club. He works at the UW Medicine Lake Union campus and teaches Microbiology. His research is focused on the relationship between viruses and cancer. Each year, Dr. Lagunoff hosts one PREP fellow in his lab for mentored research. Several past fellows have become his graduate students since the inception of the program.

Dr. Nina Salama is a professor in the Human Biology Division at Fred Hutch and a member of the Leadership Committee of PREP. Her research focuses on the role of Helicobacter Pylori and other bacterial infections in gastric cancer. She is an active mentor of PREP fellows and yearly hosts one PREP fellow in her lab.

Every year the faculty who participate in the PREP may slightly change. Below are some of the current faculty participating in the upcoming PREP academic year.

Dr. Thelma Escobar is a faculty member of the departments of Biochemistry and the Institute for Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine. Her research focuses on epigenetics inheritance and stem cell biology.

Dr. Abhinav Nath is a professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at UW. His research is focused on protein dynamics in human health and disease.

Dr. Anitha Pasupathy is a professor in the Department of Biological Structure at UW. Her research is focused on the neural basis of visual processing.

Dr. Jihong Bai is a professor in the Basic Science Division at the Fred Hutch. His research is focused on the brain and how sensation, perception, and behavior work.
