Fact Sheet: Washington State Academy of Sciences (PDF)Business Meeting: 40 members were in attendence to welcome the 25 new members. Michael Kern, Director of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center was invited to give a brief overview and discuss opportunities of colaboration between the Center and WSAS. Lunch: WSAS member, James Krueger, Professor, Washington State University, introduced the students guests, and their parents and teachers. A special thank you to The Boeing Co., Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Battelle, and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories that sponsored our visiting teachers and students. The WSAS staff received many thank you's from the teachers and students for their invitation to participate in the event. Symposium: Moderator, Jud Virden, from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Battelle started the symposium off with an excellent overview of the different energy sectors existing in Washington state. Speakers engaged the audience in several discussions in the pros and cons of each energy sector and how they diversify the supply base and contribute to the energy inftrastructure in Washington State. Dinner Speaker: The long informative day culminated with a visionary speech from Dr. Edward Schweitzer, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories on the future of modern power systems.
