2014 MSW DAY GRAD Presentation – Join Up! Get Creative

Graduating MSW DAY Students,

Sign up here by Friday, February 14th to plan your graduation COHORT PRESENTATION (details below):  https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/rufferl/225073

_________________________________________________________________

At this year’s ceremony, each of the four graduating cohorts

  1. MSW EDP
  2. ADVANCED YEAR DAY = MSW 2nd Year Day + Advanced Standing Students
  3. BASW
  4. PhD

will have an opportunity to offer a 3-5 minute presentation*.

Cohorts may present any of the following during their respective time slot:

a performance

a video

speaker(s) .

*Note:  These cohort presentations follow a FORMAL program with a serious Keynote Speaker, address by the Dean and student procession to the stage.  They do not replace the formal part of the ceremony which your family and friends may be anticipating.  They are simply a signature presentation for each cohort.

To begin planning, I am requesting that interested members of your cohort meet with me to discuss your ideas for this presentation. We would begin meeting in a couple of weeks and typically meet once a week as planners schedules permit. If you are interested in helping to plan this short presentation for your cohort, please reply via a very brief catalyst:

by Friday, 2/14 Catalyst will provide your contact information and I will be in touch on the 19th of February with info about meeting room and time.

We are starting this process earlier this year so planners will have enough time to brainstorm, consult and produce!  If you have ideas, please get involved nowWe’ll talk about options and resources.  I will not be directing anything – rather, my role is to support you and your classmates in this process in any way I can.  Please know that those who step forward will be making decisions about the presentation – and we will let you know who your representatives are.

PLEASE NOTE:   if you are not willing or able to commit to time devoted to planning, your criticism late in the process is not productive.  We are grateful each year to the amazingly talented student planners willing to devote their energies to create a presentation which captures the unique qualities of the planners, cohort and moment in time (Graduation in 2014).

Just FYI, this is the video last year’s Advanced Year Day Students presented.  Please do not let this limit your ideas in any way – it is just presented for informational purposes.  As you might imagine, a video can take quite a bit of coordination of people, resources and locations – I am not recommending it.  However, you would have access to media lab resources such as cameras, microphones, recorders, studio, editing equipment, etc.  You are not required to produce a video – the product is totally dependent upon the interests of your planning group:

If Advanced Year DAY students aren’t able to finalize or agree upon a type of presentation (i.e., video, presentation, speaker(s)) for their cohort by  Friday, March 8, Student Services will initiate a survey so students can select a cohort speaker for their MSW Advanced Year DAY cohort.

Thank you to the four MSW students who have replied already — but we do need more committee members to brainstorm and share coordination activities.  My role is to find resources and troubleshoot so the committee can focus on creating your presentation.

Happy to answer your questions.  rufferL@uw.edu

 Best,
