Business Items

I.                    Budget allotment

a.       Several members of the group discussed being uncomfortable with allotting too much money for event snacks and food going to waste. Miriam will draft a letter to groups about what to do with leftover snacks from events in a socially just way (donate to Roots) and send it to Lin.

II.                  Sizism, Weightism Advocacy Group (SWAG) is requesting $225 for Eating Disorder Awareness Week activity (art supplies/printing), a nutrition presentation to SSW community ($100 snacks/printing cost of handouts), and SWAG end of year celebration snacks ($75).

a.       Charlie voiced that they can use the RSO printing on campus to save SAC money

b.     Didi moved to $100 allotment unanimously approved

III.               Social Work Asian-Pacific Islander Group is requesting $250 for lunar new year (on Jan 31st) food ($100), a panel ($100 snacks and activities), and Critical dialogue of API & SW profession in spring  (snacks $50).

a.       Might conflict with SAC’s winter social activities (Miriam voiced this concern)

b.      Preliminary funding with a follow up with date (Paloma is following up with Priscilla from SWAPIG) or maybe SAC could sponsor the event (combine the two)

c.      Candace moved to allot $100, APPROVED 11 Yes’

IV.               Anti-Racism and White Allies Group (ARWAG) is requesting $500 for a winter film showing ($300 to give honorariums and $100 for 3-4 homeless (or formerly homeless youth for panel, $100 for refreshments)

a.       Miriam is concerned with what film they are showing and if that relates to social justice and the SAC funding intention.

b.      Paloma and Jennie were concerned about how much the honorarium was being paid compared to the speakers who are homeless

c.       Candace suggested informing the group where their other funding resources are

d.      This would be 25% of our budget and there is $500 per year for RSOs for the year and they are taking applications now for winter/spring quearters

e.       Gary and Didi proposed a monetary cap for funding for honorium speakers

f.        Candace proposed to cut honorarium allotment in half and give a total of $350 APPROVED, 3 no’s and 11 yes’

V.                 APPROVED: Social Work Immigration Alliance (SWIA) is requesting $350 for retroactively funding their film screening ($50 for refreshments), winter event training/dialogue ($50 for refreshments), and $150 for Tamale Bake Sale Fundraiser ingredients.

Reports:

I.                    Advanced students feeling like there might be a clique between them and second year day students

II.                  First ½ quarter (summer) really hard for Advanced standing students and time goes by too quickly

III.               Gary talked about how SAC used to have independent cohort meetings

IV.               Genevieve talked about Spanish and Social Welfare classes time conflicting

Comments, Concerns, and Acknowledgements:

I.                    Planning winter social

a.       Is asking to join Lunar New Year inappropriate since it is a culture specific event?
