Amnesty International “My Body My Rights” Video Screening and Q&A discussion

Amnesty International is doing a small movie screening event followed up by a Q&A discussion with a panel of experts on domestic and sexual violence for Amnesty’s campaign “My Body My Rights”.

We are holding the event at Smith 205 on January 15th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We will be screening two short videos.

The first is Jackson Katz “Violence against women — it’s a men’s issue” followed by Clementine Ford “Your vagina is not a car”

Our Panel of guests are Allena Gabosch who is the director of the Center for Sex Positive Culture (http://thecspc.org/about-us/founder-bios), Emily Cordo who is the managing attorney for the Sexual Assault Legal Services & Assistance program at the Sexual Violence Law Center (http://svlawcenter.org/section_about/EmilyCordo.htm), and Sarah Parker who is a Community Advocate at New Beginnings (http://www.newbegin.org/get-educated/about-new-beginnings/staff). After the videos our panel of guests will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the points and perspectives brought up by the two videos in order to broaden the conversation, which will be open to the audience to ask questions about the videos or the issues in general. We also have the International Violence Against Women Act that we are encouraging people to sign in order to take some action towards solving domestic and gender based violence on an international level.

We hope to educate and help motivate action in order to solve these very serious social issues.
