HEALTHY GENERATIONS SCHOLARSHIP – DUE MAY 4TH

University of Washington students with interest in Multigenerational practice in the Evening Degree, Advanced Standing or Second-Year MSW program or the UW Tacoma Social Work Program who are interested in social work practice with older adults and their families as well as multigenerational practice in prevention, health promotion, and aging well among midlife and older adults, their families and caregivers, are invited to apply for a designated Healthy Generations Center of Excellence Scholarship.

 

Overview

The Healthy Generations Center of Excellence is a bi-campus collaboration of the University of Washington School of Social Work and the University of Washington Tacoma Social Work Program.

 

The Healthy Generations Center of Excellence is distinguished by its focus on innovation and responding to the changing nature of aging in our society. The Center incorporates a multigenerational perspective to address health disparities to promote health equity and the well-being of older adults, their families and caregivers. The goals of the Center are:

  • Generate innovative approaches and the knowledge base needed to address aging, health disparities and improve health and well-being, within a multigenerational context;
  • Design new ways to respond to the increasing diversity of older adults and their families across communities and cultures, promoting health equity and resilience across the generations;
  • Develop practice and policy change models with a focus on innovation in aging services with adults in midlife and older adults, their families and caregivers.

 

Scholarship Information

Successful applicants will demonstrate an established and strong commitment to working with midlife and older adults and their families and caregivers, prevention and cross-generational health promotion, and healthy aging. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a competitive process for one $3,000 financial award to be applied to the student’s UW Husky account. The award will be divided across three quarters. Two students will also be selected for $1,000.00 awards to be paid in the fall quarter.

 

Application Requirements

  1. In a personal statement (single spaced one page maximum length), please respond to each of the following:
  • Describe your experience, interest and commitment to aging and multigenerational social work practice.
  • Describe your experience working on issues related to aging, or prevention and health promotion for older adults either through paid work, volunteer, practicum or personal experiences.
  • Describe your leadership skills (including a specific example when you were in a leadership role).
  • Describe an experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds and communities.
  1. Resume which clearly outlines work experience, internships, volunteer positions, coursework, and continuing education relevant to the award. Please also identify which MSW program you are enrolled in (EDP, Advanced Standing, Second Year Day, Dual Degree program or UW Tacoma Social Work Program) and your anticipated graduation date.
  2. Name and contact information from two professional references (professor, practicum instructor, or other work site supervisor). The full name, professional title, telephone, and email must be included. We will contact these references on an as needed basis.
  3. Student’s full name, address, phone, and email information should be included on the resume and the personal statement.
