National Student Leadership Diversity Convention: http://nsldc.org/learning-outcomes/

The National Student Leadership Diversity Convention is the largest national gathering of student leaders and campus based advisors to address the most critical topics of diversity and social justice challenging our campuses today. Through experiential workshops, keynote sessions, and round table discussions teams of students will explore various elements of diversity and how they affect themselves and their campuses. During the conference students will be led through facilitated workshops to develop a Campus Action Plan for a program or event that the teams selects to work on together on in order to bring back a piece of the NSLDC experience to their own campuses.

United Collegiate Women’s Leadership Conference: http://ucwlc.com/spring/

The United Collegiate Women’s Leadership Conference is an interactive transformational experience where women from all walks of life come together to understand the authentic leader they have within themselves, while preparing them to tackle critical issues facing their campus and larger communities. Women often are socialized to believe that exerting themselves means they are bossy, or that being quiet means they are shy. Issues of systemic misogyny creates a dynamic where women often are left competing against one another, or believing that one woman’s shine can diminish another’s. The truth is that united women are more likely to be successful. Women should not have to choose which of their identities they are going to lead with in their personal and professional lives. At UCWLC, we believe it’s all for one, and one for all. UCWLC creates a space that is high-energy, empowering and designed to create a transformational experience.

A National Conference for LGBTQA+ Student Leaders, Advisors, and Allies: http://nsldcpride.org/category/conferences/

NSLDC Pride is a leadership conference which provides student leaders with the skillsets to encourage a society free of anti-LGBTQA+ prejudice, bigotry and hate on their campuses. Through experiential workshops, keynote sessions, and roundtable discussions; students will be given the tools to become stronger leaders and allies to the LGBTQA+ community by practicing inclusion in their organizations and on their campuses. During the conference students will be led through facilitated workshops to develop a campus action plan to bring back to their own campuses and communities.

Fight Evictions! Protest Landlord Lobby and their Attorneys!

Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00PM

Outside the Frye Museum (704 Terry Ave)

Dear friends and fellow activists,

We all know the rent is too damn high in Seattle! On top of that, Washington state’s eviction laws are heavily tilted towards landlords. Renters can be evicted in as little as three days in this state! And landlord attorneys make that happen. Like skyrocketing rents, evictions are a leading cause of homelessness nationwide. It’s time to fight back against big landlords and their attorneys!

Next Wednesday, July 18 at 6:00PM at the Frye Museum, the landlord lobby will be meeting their attorneys at a “legal forum” to hone their skills in using the law against renters. Join the Washington Community Action Network (WA CAN), housing activists, and me in a protest for renters’ rights outside the museum!

Seattle/King County Clinic “Listening Project”
The UW Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education is partnering with the Seattle/King County Clinic (SKCC) to engage interprofessional students teams as volunteers at the September 2018 4-day clinic.
The “Listening Project” is in response to the clinic’s efforts to better understand the patient populations served. Small student groups will circulate clinic waiting areas, engaging with patients who wish to share their stories related to their health, accessing care, or their experience at the SKCC. Stories will be synthesized and prepared for dissemination to the SKCC, as well as city and state policy makers.
About SKCC:
SKCC brings together healthcare organizations, civic agencies, non-profits, private businesses and volunteers from across the State of Washington to produce a giant free health clinic in Key Arena at Seattle Center. The 4-day volunteer-driven clinic provides a full range of free dental, vision and medical care to underserved and vulnerable populations in the region. Watch this short video to learn more about this clinic.
Student Roles at SKCC:
1.    Qualitative interviews with patients (“Listening Project”) – engage patients with questions to elicit their stories about health and access/barriers to health care. Each student will “write-up” the interview/encounter to be used for a reflection experience.
2.    Interpreter services – non-medical interpretation and patient navigation (high need)
Dates & Shifts:
Each day, there will be two shifts: the morning shift begins at 9am and ends at 12 pm, the afternoon shift begins at 1pm, and ends at 4 pm. There will be a maximum of nine students per shift (three interprofessional groups of 2-3 students). Dates and times for all eight shifts are listed below.
1.        Thursday    9/20/18    9:00-12:00 AM

Hi everyone,

*Excited to announce to save the date for the Queer/Trans Fall Welcome

Event on September 27 from 7-9 pm in room 305.* Last year we had about 50

folks show up, and many incoming and returning students told me how

meaningful it was for them to see faculty, staff, doc students, masters,

and bachelors students all at this event.

RSVP at the FB event if you use FB:

https://www.facebook.com/events/180337712653722

Feel free to share this email/flier. I will be sending an ask out as the

date nears for folks who teach to share with their classes on 9/26 and 9/27.
