UW Campus Climate Survey Results

On May 22, UW students, faculty and staff will be able to review the executive summary, presentation slides and full reports of the fall Climate Surveys, for each campus. The following week, Rankin and Associates will join us via Zoom for campus-level Q&A sessions. You can submit questions to yourvoice@uw.edu before and during the Q&A sessions.

Join the ASUW Student Disability Commission and Emily Noonan, PhD, MA, from the University of Louisville School of Medicine for a conversation discussing disability rights and barriers that lead to health and health care disparities for people with disabilities, the role that future physicians and scientists play in ensuring the fair treatment of people with disabilities, and the importance of disability studies informed medical education.

The Embodiment of Risk, Health Disparities, and Stress Mechanisms (SocWl 594)

Open to:     Graduate students across disciplines with research interests related to stress

This interdisciplinary research-oriented course is designed for students with or without biological training who have interest in multi-level (neurons to neighborhoods) exposure to and health and development implications of stress. It provides an overview of theory and research methods targeting embodiment processes through which lifespan stress contributes to developmental, mental and physical health outcomes, with attention to vulnerable populations and outcome inequalities.

Guest speakers representing diverse disciplines and areas of expertise will participate. The format will include lecture, small group discussion, active dialogue among course participants, and application of concepts to studentsʼ own research interests. Designed to be interactive and foster transdisciplinary perspectives.

Looking for students with strong data management skills and an interest in scraping tools, setting up databases and visualizing data for use in social science projects, with a particular application to housing search.

“Chickasaw Healthy Eating Environments Research Study (CHEERS)”

This webinar will provide an overview of CHEERS, a study being conducted in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation. CHEERS comprises several mutually reinforcing strategies to improve blood pressure control among American Indian adults with uncontrolled hypertension. Study findings, including a health economics assessment, will be used to promote policies to expand both the Packed Promise for a Healthy Heart intervention and the establishment of brick-and-mortar grocery outlets in rural Chickasaw Nation communities.

Presenters:
Tori Taniguchi, MPH is the Data Director and Research Epidemiologist for the Center for Indigenous Health Research and Policy at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.

Charlotte Love, MPH, CPH is the Managing Director of the Center for Indigenous Health Research and Policy at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa.

The UW PhD program in Health Services will be hosting a virtual meet-and-greet for prospective students on July 19.
