Scooter’s Place is looking for volunteers!

This is a great hands on opportunity for anyone looking to go into medicine, veterinary, education, psychology, physical therapy, social work, and more!

Scooter’s Place is a non-profit organization that provides adaptive horse back riding lessons to those with special needs. We specialize in children with autism, but also work with a very broad range of ages and needs! Adaptive riding works with each students needs individually. We recognize that linear improvement is not a realistic expectation for the majority of our students. Each lessons is tailored to their needs in that specific hour, day, and week.

Scooter’s needs volunteers to help with pre and post lesson horse preparation; side walking and horse leading; as well as other activities.

If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up on our website: www.scootersplace.org

GSEE has partnered with the Graduate Fellowships and Awards Office and Graduate Funding Information Service to speak with graduate students and provide an overview of necessary tools to be successful in the search for graduate student funding.

We wanted to share some updates with folks who may be interested in joining our BIPOC Affinity Group at the School of Social Work.

The BIPOC Affinity Group at the SSW is an informal group hoping to build connections with students, staff, and faculty at the School of Social Work!  This affinity group holds space for folks who self-identify as BIPOC, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Brown, Asian & Pacific Islander, Mixed & Multiracial folks.  At our first meeting we discussed some goals/intentions for our space and wanted to share this as a work in progress:

  • Offer mutual support
  • Build community and create space to connect around hobbies/interests
  • Carve out space to center the BIPOC student experience
  • Provide resources and self-development opportunities for members

Please complete our Fall survey and RSVP for our upcoming zoom gathering on Thursday, November 11th from 5-6PM.

We also encourage our BIPOC community members to join our email listserv to stay in touch!  After Fall quarter we will use this as the main form of communication about events/opportunities.

The 2021-22 admissions is now open for UW graduate students interested in the Evans Schools two graduate certificate programs:

Please feel free to share with any of your graduate students who you think may be interested.  A general overview of the certificate programs may be found on our website here.

Admissions for both certificates will be on a rolling basis, but students who are interested in completing the certificate this academic year are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible. We apologize that when we migrated our email to a new platform, we lost the previous emails sent to the email addresses, so your grad students may need to resend any emails that may have been sent earlier this fall.

Students are also welcome to contact the certificate faculty coordinator, Professor Mary Kay Gugerty, directly at gugerty@uw.edu, with any questions.
