The UW BIPOC Adoptee Collective is hosted by the UW School of Social Work and is open to all adopted UW students, staff, and faculty who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a person of color. 

The UW BIPOC Adoptee Collective and AIRE Roots are sponsoring a workshop by Dr. JaeRan Kim on the Adoptee Consciousness Model.

Please join us if you identify as a BIPOC Adoptee. This event is open to the public. This event is intentionally designed as a space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Adoptees. We appreciate your understanding and respect for maintaining this as a BIPOC Adoptee affinity space.

The School of Social Work’s Anti-Racist White Affinity Group (ARWAG) is holding its first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, October 15th, from 6-7pm in Room 038 at the School of Social Work! We’d love to have you join us and help build out the group for the new school year.

About us: This affinity group holds space for SSW students, staff, and faculty who self-identify as BIPOC, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Brown, Asian & Pacific Islander, Mixed & Multiracial folks. 

This is an informal, student-centered group, voluntarily supported by staff and faculty at the School of Social Work – if you’d like to learn more, join us at the SSW Fall Welcome Event next Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5-6:30PM and fill out our Fall Interest Survey – we are looking for new student leadership to help support the direction of this effort. Following the welcome, a group of folks will be headed to The Burke for the GSEE Getting Connected Reception (registration is required!).

UW BIPOC Adoptee Collective Affinity Group, previously known as TAG (Transracial Adoptee Group), is hosting its first gathering of the academic year on October 15, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Group therapy provides students the space to get support and help mutual growth with fellow students sharing similar experiences. These groups are facilitated by therapists and are available at no out-of-pocket cost. Please note that there are a limited number of spots for each group therapy.

What exactly is group therapy? Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a small group of individuals come together under the guidance of a trained therapist to share their experiences, discuss their challenges, and work on their personal growth. For college students, group therapy can provide a supportive environment to address common issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and academic pressures.

  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) for Anxiety
  • Beginning Mindfulness Meditation
  • Between Cultures (for students who identify with multiple cultures & struggle with belonging)
  • Feminist Process Group for Graduate Students

  • Queer Tabletop Roleplaying Game Group
  • Umoja: Support Group focused on Black and Brown Womxn Graduate Student Experiences

UW BIPOC Makers Fair on Oct 11

Visit the BIPOC Makers Fair at the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House, hosted by the Kelly ECC, The wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House, TRIO SSS, and EOP. Come out and support your local artists! From beadwork to clothing, soap to stickers, we’ve got you covered!

Join us at the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House as we host some amazing, crafted items made by UW students, staff, faculty, and alumni at UW. We will be taking over gathering hall in the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ Intellectual House! There will be jewelry, designed prints and stickers, apparel, soap, crystals, art, and so much more. We will also have giveaways and raffles for students that attend!

Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 in financial support over two years towards graduate study.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers scholarships of up to $5,000 to Pell Grant recipients participating in credit-bearing study abroad programs. Students studying critical need languages may receive up to $3000 more, and those conducting STEM-research abroad may receive up to $1000 more.  National deadline: Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:59pm Pacific Time.

The CLS Program provides opportunities for American college and university students to study languages and cultures essential to America’s engagement with the world. 

This scholarship awards merit-based scholarships to college students who plan on pursuing careers in government or elsewhere in public service. Truman Scholars receive up to 30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.

An immersive summer opportunity to study critical languages and cultures, the CLS Program offers small classes, individual consultants, and cultural programming. Languages offered: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu. Open to all language levels.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by American Councils for International Education.
