What Do We Mean By Presence?
While the impact of the University of Washington in the Seattle area is readily recognized, the University's participation in other areas of the state is sometimes invisible. UW faculty, staff, and students lend their expertise to hundreds of research, teaching, and service initiatives in Washington communities. Although by no means exhaustive, this site paints a well-rounded picture of the scope and variety of these programs:
- Educational Partnerships
with K-12 school districts, community colleges and other postsecondary institutions enhance opportunities for students and educators.
- Student Outreach
programs provide a wide variety of learning experiences for students.
- Community Service
is performed by diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.
- Medical Education and Services
are provided to Washington residents in numerous communities.
- Certificate Programs and Continuing Education
for adult learners who seek to develop or hone professional skills are available in some communities and through distance learning.
Graduate Study in some disciplines is also available at off-campus sites.
- K-12 Professional Development
helps classroom teachers enhance their teaching and curriculum design skills.
- Technology Transfer
creates jobs and strengthens Washington's economy.
- Students
attend the UW from all counties in the state of Washington, and UW Alumni live and work across the state.
- And, last but not least, the UW is a Research institution whose faculty members create new knowledge in their disciplines, educate undergraduate students, and train future scholars.
