The Application Process

Application to the Honors Program is a three step process.

1. PREREQUISITES

Students apply for admission in the spring quarter of their sophomore or junior year for placement in the program in the Autumn quarter the following academic year. In order to be considered for admission, students must meet the following requirements: 1) A minimum GPA of 3.5 in completed political courses. 2) A minimum overall cumulative 3.3 GPA. 3) Have completed no less than 5 political science courses by the time the program begins in the fall.

2. APPLICATION

Applications are due April 16th, 2007.

Applications are available in the Political Science Advising Office located in 215 Smith Hall and also on the internet in a downloadable format. Applications are submitted to Christina Kerr in the Political Science Advising office by a prescribed date noted on the application. An Honors Committee reviews the files and selects candidates for interviews. Christina Kerr will invite students selected for an interview for a pre-interview informational meeting. Applications can be downloaded here

3. THE INTERVIEW

In the interview, two faculty members will engage the student in a lively discussion and debate. The interviews are short but intense.

SELECTION INTO THE HONORS PROGRAM

Admission to the Honors Program is very competitive. We admit between 10 to 15 students each year. We base selection on the academic record, performance in the interview, and on extracurricular activities. You will be notified within two weeks of your interview.
