The DRC gained their independence in 1960. Weeks within their independence Colonel Joseph Mobutu took over and claimed himself president making DRC fall into a civil war. During the war rebel groups traded diamonds for their weapons. As the war continued, by 1997 over four million people died, also in this year the president was overthrown. |
