b'Student Spotlights Misaki SetoMisaki Seto is an international student from Japan who graduated with a degree in Bio-medical Sciences in spring 2019. Misaki was also a student worker in the Office of Global Affairs, creating a welcoming environment for fellow international students and sup-porting them during their time at UW Tacoma. She also worked with UW Tacoma faculty Dr. Lisa Hoffman and Dr. Mary Hanneman on their oral history project about Japanese and Japanese Americans in Tacoma. As part of the program, he traveled to Guangzhou (Canton) and Hong Kong and learned about Chinese history, philosophy and culture. To anyone who is consideringattending a study abroad program, I will borrow Nikes slogan: Just Do It. Amari DavisAmari Davis (Criminal Justice, BA 20) traveled to the Netherlands in summer 2019 to learn about the criminal justice system, mental health, and substance abuse. During vis-its [to the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Rijks Museum], I experi-enced a variety of emotions which were informed by my own social positions as a Black, female, U.S. citizen. I [also] experienced feelings of community and understanding de-rived through forms of expression such as art and history. Jennifer Hoffman Jennifer Hoffman (Sustainable Urban Development, BA 2018) studied abroad in early fall 2018 on the Argen-tina: Urban Field Experience program. Jennifer grew up with four siblings, and her dad was the only working parent. She hadnt had any travel experience before coming to UW Tacoma and initially didnt think study abroad was going to work. Receiving the OGA Study Abroad Scholarship (generously supported by the Bam-ford Foundation) made it possible for her. Says Jennifer, For students like me that think study abroad is completely out of the realm of possibility, you should think again. Study abroad can be made possible; it just takes a little bit of work, but, oh, is it worth it!Tina Van Tina Van (Business Administration BA19) studied abroad twice: First in the 2019 Business in the Global Economy program to Spain and then in a language focused program in Quito, Ecuador. She received the nationally competitive Gilman International Scholarship for her study abroad to Ecuador. My identity was definitely one of my biggest lessons that car-ried over I am Vietnamese-American, but . I was not what people were expecting for a Vietnamese, an Asian person, or an American person It was definitely realizing that Ihave multiple identities, was my biggest lesson for myself [while studying abroad].'
