Lab Information @ CSSCR

CSSCR has four labs in Savery Hall:

  • Room 118 (The Drop-In Lab) has 14 computers, three silde/negative scanners and three flatbed scanners. It is a drop-in facility and never reserved for classes. A hydrolic ADA desk is available for general use. Lab machines are equipped with commonly used analytical software.
  • Room 121 (The Small Lab) is a classroom/lab which seats 20 plus instructor. It has high-end computers, wide-angle projector, audio/visual equipment and class management software. It may be reserved for classes by CSSCR member departments and is used as drop-in space at other times.
  • Room 117 (The Big Lab) is a classroom/lab which seats 40 plus instructor. It has high-end computers, wide-angle projector, audio/visual equipment and class management software. It may be reserved for classes by CSSCR member departments and is used as drop-in space at other times.
  • Room 120 is our secure data room. It is a designated space for working with data with special licensing requirements, which broadly means data requiring a machine isolated from any networking.

Reservations

Faculty, staff and students in our member departments can reserve the labs for credit courses. Any UW student can reserve our labs for non-credit teaching, workshops, study groups, and research that requires a computer lab. When labs are not reserved, they are used to support overflow of the drop-in lab.

To reserve a lab, call 206-543-8110 during business hours or send an email with the dates and times you need the lab, your name and department, the course or purpose, and the lab you wish to reserve.

Computers

CSSCR was awarded nearly a quarter million dollars in STF funding for AY 2016, which is being used to update all three labs with the following machines:

Dell Precision T5810
Dual Intel Xeon Hex-core processors clocked at
16 GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro graphics card
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

Room 118 is equipped with six of the aforementioned machines, two Apple iMacs, and four HP Compaq 8200 towers.
