Global WACh Graduate Certificate Program

Program Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Global Health of Women, Adolescents, and Children (Global WACh Certificate) was created to give University of Washington students a comprehensive overview of current issues in global health as they pertain to the intertwined health and well-being of women, adolescents, and children. Graduates of the program will gain mentorship, base knowledge and skills, and hands-on practical experience in global health fields related to women, adolescents, and children. Our Interdisciplinary Approach

Graduate students enrolled in the Global WACh Certificate Program are from diverse backgrounds, with different interests related to women, adolescent, and child health. Our program includes a broad range of courses that count towards certificate credits. Topics include:

Infant, Child, Adolescent Health
Nutrition
Policy and Health Assessment
Reproductive Health
Pharmacy and Environment
Maternal-Child Health
Global Health

Requirements

15 credits total, including:
- 6 Core Credits
- 6 Elective Credits
- 3 Independent Study Credits (in GH 600 or another department prefix)

Attend at least 6 monthly cohort meetings
- One hour meetings are scheduled once a month during the academic year (September through May). Topics range from faculty and professional roundtable sessions, support for travel fellowship applications, to perfecting capstone presentation pitches.

Capstone Project
- The capstone is a 3-credit (90 hours) Independent Study project required to complete the Certificate and is separate from your master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation. Capstone projects must be proposed, approved, and completed while enrolled in the Certificate. Students must develop a research-style poster to showcase at Global WACh’s annual year-end celebration during Spring Quarter prior to graduation. Students graduating during other quarters may identify an alternative UW research event to showcase their poster.
