Today the UW community lost distinguished leader Dr. Gabriel Gallardo. Dr. Gallardo served as Associate Vice President of OMA&D and oversaw the OMA&D Student Success team. ABOUT:

The Health Professions Academy (HPA) is a comprehensive professional development program for University of Washington undergraduate students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are aspiring to become physicians and dentists. The goal of the HPA is to provide participating students with opportunities to develop the academic skills and participate in experiences outside of the classroom that are needed to successfully compete for entry into health professional schools. The community of HPA scholars support each other at this important stage of their preparation for professional school and as they learn what will be expected of them as healthcare leaders of the future who will improve the quality of care for our increasingly diverse population.

HPA is a collaborative program with stakeholders coming together from across the UW campus and local community. It is led by the UW’s School of Medicine Center for Health Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (CEDI), School of Dentistry and Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity. For full details about the program and to apply, visit the program site at https://depts.washington.edu/cedi/hpa.
