Permissions

If your article includes material for which permission might be required (including images, figures, text, or epigraphs), contact the assistant editor (mlq@u.washington.edu) as early in the acceptance process as possible. It is the author's responsibility to initiate the conversation and to ensure that permissions are secured prior to copy editing.

In brief, Duke UP requires non-exclusive worldwide publishing rights, with no time/term restrictions, for use of the material in MLQ, regardless of media, territories, or languages.

The assistant editor will supply you with electronic copies of two documents from DUP: a Permission Request for Use of Image(s) or Text Excerpt(s), and a Permissions Log. Once filled out, a Permission Request form for each item can be either physically signed by the rights holder or accompanied by the entire e-mail correspondence of your request. Completed Permission Request form(s) and Log are submitted to the assistant editor with your final manuscript materials.
