Tools to track the 2025 Washington State legislative session:

Washington State Capitol, Olympia, WA

The 2025 Washington state legislative session is nearing a crucial turning point. This Friday, February 28th, is the deadline for proposed legislation to be voted out of policy committee. If the proposed legislature does not pass out of committee by Friday, it does not have a chance to pass this legislative session.

However, tracking legislation as it moves through various committees and checkpoints can be confusing. Thankfully, there is a free website called LegiScan that aggregates publicly available data and presents it in a straightforward manner.  While this information is freely available on the Washington State Legislature website, the website itself is not very intuitive. Consequently, LegiScan collects and organizes the information so you can view the progress of bills at a glance and easily filter by legislation type and current status. You can easily see the sponsors of the bills, next scheduled action, results of roll call votes, and more. In short, check out the LegiScan Washington State 2025 Legislative Session tracker!

MSW-Clinical specialization students, consider your attendance to this workshop. Flyer and details below. Commence forwarded message:

My name is Lawrence and I am currently a senior in the UW SSW BASW (that’s a mouthful!) program. My practicum is hosting a free lecture by an esteemed local hematologist-oncologist this upcoming Tuesday, and I figured that an email would be more effective than a flier in the hallway.

If anyone (student or practitioner) has an interest in working in hematology or oncology, this is a nice opportunity to stay abreast of research and practices that directly affect our clients. Please feel free to share this with anyone you think it might benefit, and I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Lobby Day 2/14/25

Posted under Events on Feb 12, 2025

Ben Packard, MSW, from our School of Social Work, invites you to join in a lobby day in Olympia this Friday!  If you’ve ever been curious about policy, legislative, or lobbying work, this is an awesome opportunity to get some experience.

Here is an invitation from Ben:

This Friday we are going to the Capitol in Olympia! I realize this is short notice, but Friday is the first legislative cutoff, and we want to get some bills over the finish line! Plus, we will be joining forces with our colleagues at the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association for their lobby day.

If you want to come, please fill out this form. Our lobbyist will try to schedule meetings with your State reps!

We will be arriving in Olympia by 9 am, and departing at 3 pm. Please bring food and water for yourselves!

One bill we hope to see pass is HB 1589. I will be testifying today in the House Health committee in support. The bill will require insurance carriers to negotiate with providers in good faith and will provide protections from common insurance practices, like payment denials and clawbacks. We expect if this bill passes that more providers will  be willing to accept insurance, more patients will be able to access care, and clinicians will be better able to support themselves and their families.

If you want to send a comment to your rep’s right now on this bill, you can right here!
