• 8 • Steve Calandrillo Kristi Straus Arbella Bet-Shlimon Gaylene Altman Teaching Awards Five University of Washington professors are winners of the University of Washington Distinguished Teaching Award for 2017. They are Steve Calandrillo, Jeffrey and Susan Brotman Professor of Law; Gaylene Altman, associate professor of biobehavioral nursing and health informatics; Arbella Bet-Shlimon, assistant professor of history; Inma Raneda-Cuartero, senior lecturer in Spanish and Portuguese studies; and Kristi Straus, lecturer in environmental studies. Inma Raneda- Cuartero Michael McCann Two graduate students with teaching responsibilities receive the Excellence in Teaching Award for 2017. They are Jared Stuart, graduate student in political science, and Brianna Tamasaki, graduate instructor and teaching assistant in psychology. The recipient of the Marsha L. Weinstein Endowed Chair in Chemistry, is the winner of the University Faculty Lecture Award, which honors current or emeriti faculty whose research, scholarship or art has been widely recognized by their peers and whose achievements have had a substantial impact on their profession, on the research or performance of others and perhaps on society as a whole.
