Republication

Both MLQ and Duke University Press understand first-hand the importance of intellectual property for scholars. The contract that authors sign with MLQ/Duke gives the widest breadth possible for republication rights. That is, authors have full authority to reprint any essay in the author's own work without a republication fee. The following sentence from the publication agreement, signed after a work has been accepted, details this provision:

In case of republication, notice of previous publication in Modern Language Quarterly, and that it is reprinted by permission of the Publisher, must be given.

The press charges a fee if the essay is reprinted in someone else's collection. If you have any questions about reprinting, including specific costs, contact Duke's permissions representative at permissions@dukeupress.edu.

Further information on rights and permissions is available on the Duke UP permissions page.
