Opportunity to volunteer in Kenya, South Africa, Peru and Guatemala

Did you know that 50% of Africans, 58% of Guatemalans and 54% in Peru live below the poverty line, on less than $2 a day? Volunteer with Azma International and make a difference!

Azma International invites applications to participate in one of our three volunteer programs offered during summer break 2014, winter break 2014 and spring break 2015. The volunteer opportunities are offered in Kenya, Guatemala, Peru and South Africa. invites Volunteers in these programs would work in one of these program areas:

1) Teaching

2) Medical outreach

3) HIV/AIDS awareness

4) Child development in orphanages

5) Disabled care

6) Women’s empowerment

7) Wildlife Conservation

8) Agriculture Conservation

9) Sea turtle Conservation

Volunteering is a great way to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience using your skills to help others while building close relationships with your fellow students. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity while spots are still available. We look forward to working with you! Come promote social justice, gain technical and intercultural skills, and get a glimpse of different career paths open to you. We invite you to help us fight the war against poverty! Check us out at www.azmainternational.org.

If you are unable to participate during spring break or summer but would still like to experience a volunteer trip, we have programs available year-round. Visit us at www.azmainternational.org.

The SSW has no affiliation with this program (and no endorsement) and it would be very unlikely that the work you would do would count toward your MSW degree, but it sounds like a great experience.

Subject: Elective Opportunity: Health and Homelessness (ORALM 651) – Register Now!

I am pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed course Health and Homelessness (ORALM 651 – SLN# 20948 for 1 credit) will once again be starting this Spring quarter (with new guest speakers!!!). This interdisciplinary, student-led seminar aims to supplement your volunteer and outreach experience with a comprehensive understanding of the homeless community. I started the course last year after I had noticed that the most enriching volunteer experiences I had participated in were ones where I had gained a better understanding of the community I was serving. This course brings together speakers from different disciplines and backgrounds with the amazing opportunities provided by our community partners.

Objectives:  Read more

This would only work if you are done your practicum and can enroll for 10 credits in Spring Quarter, but if that fits you, then you may apply for this TA’ship for spring.  Please note that the class meets (and you would need to be available) on T and Th from 12-1:50 and the quiz sections are on Wednesdays between 10:30-2:20.  The Psych dept said that MSW students were fine and they have hired fee-based program students before.

  Good luck!

Hello!!

I am a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters club here at UW and wanted to see if you would be interested in becoming a team captain for our 1st Annual Bowl For Kid’s Sake at UW fundraising event on Thursday, April 10th at 6:00pm at the UW HUB Bowling alley. We are so excited about how BIG of an event this could be but we still need team captains! As a team captain we’d just want you to register and recruit 3-4 friends to bowl and seek donations to help support BBBS here in Puget Sound. We are hoping that each bowler can raise $50 in donations from friends and family. We think this is a reasonable amount to seek and hope that our volunteers will feel comfortable reaching out to the community to seek $5 and $10 donations to raise that $50. The community cares, we just have to ask! If everyone gives a LITTLE we can do BIG things! Asking has become easier than ever as you register a team it will connect through social media and do the work for you. An email to 10 friends/co-workers for $5 and you are DONE!

If you are interested please follow this link and register as a team captain: http://bit.ly/1eYOHfX or contact us at UW Bigs (uwbigs@uw.edu) for more information!

Thank you for considering this and helping out our cause and efforts here at UW! We appreciate your interest in Big Brothers Big Sisters at UW. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Cheers!
