Student Legal Services

Campus Allies

SLS works closely with other campus organizations to expand awareness about our services.

We have created close relationships with many other campus organizations to better serve our students, including:

Leadership Without Borders

Leadership Without Borders (LWB) works to serve and empower undocumented students at the University of Washington. LWB offers leadership development resources, college success navigators, the Husky Lending Library, a space for community building, and connections to other campus and community resources.

Ethnic Cultural Center

The Kelly ECC is an inclusive and affirming space that cultivates a transformative student experience. They serve and empower historically marginalized and underrepresented students by providing educational and cultural opportunities for holistic development. The Kelly ECC is the largest college cultural center in the nation. Their 25,000 square foot facility provides study and meeting spaces for students and groups, a computer lab, cultural conference rooms, multipurpose rooms, a dance studio, a social justice library, a wellness room, the Leadership without Borders center, and a staff of professional and student workers.

International Student Services

ISS staff advises international students with F-1 or J-1 visas who are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington.

International Student Services helps:

  • provide guidance on maintaining F-1 or J-1 immigration status while attending the UW
  • process F-1 and J-1 immigration benefits
  • navigate university policy and understand F-1 and J-1 visa restrictions
  • ensure university and student compliance with immigration policies
  • provide educational tools, including workshops and tutorials

Note: International student advisors are not attorneys and are unable to provide legal advice.

The Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS)

Based on campus at the University of Washington, FIUTS programs create a community of international and American students, members of the local community, and alumni around the world.

As a center of international culture that links campus with community, FIUTS delivers programs to a diverse range of constituents that promote cross-cultural understanding, global culture, and respect for diversity.

FIUTS programs strive to:

  • Promote citizen diplomacy as a way of improving international perceptions of the US and building bonds between people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Provide unique experiences to students and community members that expand cultural horizons and challenge people to learn about each other.
  • Foster youth leadership and civic engagement through global education and shared experiences.
  • Inspire lifelong passion for international affairs and cross-cultural understanding in our community and across the globe.

Q-Center

The Q Center is the professionally-supported resource, advocacy, and mentoring center for queer students and concerns at the University of Washington. It provides consulting for various departments on campus with regards to bolstering safety and respect for queer students, and also coordinates numerous programs, social organizations, and educational initiatives. The size and diversity of the Q Center’s services has grown significantly in the short time it has been operational, and this rate of growth has been matched by increasing interest throughout the campus community in the Q Center’s mission.

CIRCLE

CIRCLE (the Center for International Relations & Cultural Leadership Exchange) is the UW’s primary portal to resources, community and activities that help international and domestic students maximize their Husky Experience, together. CIRCLE streamlines critical support for international students and engages both domestic and international students so that they thrive at UW and in the global economy.
