The Director of the UW Resident & Fellow Wellness Service is responsible for developing and implementing programs that support a positive learning environment for residents and fellows, and improve the quality of life for our residents, fellows and their families. The Director also provides counseling, therapy and referral services for residents, fellows and others dealing with specific concerns such as depression and suicidality, anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship issues including domestic violence, grief/loss, chemical dependency, and interpersonal conflicts. The Director is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Office within the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM). The Director works closely with the following individuals/entities:
– GME Office, including Wellness Counselors
– GME Leadership including Assistant Dean, Associate Dean and Vice Dean
– Residency and fellowship Program Directors, Chiefs, and Program Administrators
– Chair (and Emeritus Chair) of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
– Washington Physician’s Health Program (WPHP)
– Consulting psychiatrist and others, Learning Specialist(s) and Community Provider(s)

REQUIREMENTS
Master’s in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology. Licensure as a mental health professional (LICSW, LMHC) by the Washington State Department of Health.

Four plus years’ experience in:
– Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders including suicidality, behavior disorders, and post-partum depression.
– Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
– Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity.
– Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
– Experience and comfort working with victims of interpersonal violence, with racially and ethnically diverse populations, and with LGBTQ clients.
– Familiarity and practical experience working with models of time-limited and evidence-based psychotherapy.

We will also host workshops on topics that include White Allyship; How to apply intersectional, anti-racist theory and strategies to public policy; Community Organizing & Public Policy with a racial equity lens; and How to effectively and equitably involve marginalized communities in the policy process. Summer Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS)

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 6, 2020

The undergraduate Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship competition has been re-opened, with an extended deadline of March 6. Please apply as soon as possible once the application portal reopens on February 14.

Languages supported by South Asia Center FLAS are Bengali (Bangla)HindiPersian, and Urdu. Other South Asian languages subject to approval.

Eligibility: applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS, for study in India) and South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI, for study at UW-Madison) are options for summer language study.

The AIIS application deadline has passed, but they will accept late applications by February 19http://www.indiastudies.org/language-programs/

The SASLI application deadline is April 1, but they ask for applications as soon as possible to ensure enrollments: https://sasli.wisc.edu/

UW Diversity Leadership Conference  is held on Friday, February 21, from 3-7 pm it is an afternoon skill-building and intergroup dialogue conference. The theme of this year’s conference is The Personal Is Political: Showing Up for Ourselves and Others in Solidarity.

Students who attend the workshops will learn how to navigate conversations regarding the upcoming election year and propel them forward towards meaningful opportunities on and off-campus. The conference is catered by Bay Laurel with sweet treats from Seattle Pops. Students will also have the opportunity to win raffle prizes in the form of gift cards to Trader Joe’s, Safeway, and Starbucks.

Concerned about tobacco use in kids?  Consider taking part in Tar Wars!

Tar Wars is a tobacco-free education program for fourth- and fifth-grade students. The program is designed to teach kids about the short-term health effects of tobacco use, the cost associated with using tobacco products, and the advertising techniques used by the tobacco industry to market their products to youth.

This tailored workshop will present an overview of career exploration strategies on the topics of networking, informational interviews, LinkedIn profile, and job search as an international graduate student. At the end of the one-hour workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify short-term and long-term career goals
  • Learn tips and strategies on career exploration
  • Draft a plan for a future informational interview
  • Connect with peers who are also in the job search process

Young Adult Grant Advisory Board is a small cohort of young adults who learn about and execute the process of disbursing a sizable sum of funds to agencies involved in addressing the homelessness crisis.
