Beier Lab

Welcome to the Beier Lab

Unraveling the Genetic Causes of Disease

The Beier Lab uses genetic analysis in model systems as a means to understand human biology, and identifies genes that contribute to human disease and developmental abnormalities.

Dr. David Beier has developed innovative gene analysis strategies, and his team has positionally cloned the causal gene for over 50 mutations, many encoding previously uncharacterized genes. The Beier Lab’s research has anticipated many of the major trends in model organism genetic analysis: the characterization of modifying genes and QTLs; the application of ENU mutagenesis for developmental investigation; and the utilization of SNP genotyping and next-generation sequencing for genetic mapping in the mouse and zebrafish.

The lab’s efforts have provided insight into basic developmental processes, with research that is consistently forward-looking.
