Ethnic Cultural Theater

Nationally acclaimed poet and spoken-word artist Yosimar Reyes expands his repertoire to include a full-length solo performance. Prieto is an autobiographical one-man show that follows Yosimar’s journey growing up queer, poor, and undocumented in the hoods of Eastside San Jose. His grandmother and grandfather recycle bottles and cans to pay for the rent. The boys on his block constantly tease him telling him he acts like a girl, but no one has taken the time to teach him how to be a boy. As a young boy, he struggled to understand and wrap his head around manhood.

Yosimar’s work explores the themes of migration and sexuality:

For Colored Boys Who Speak Softly

The Ashes with Julio Salgado

Reyes has toured and presented in University campuses all over the United States. He is the co-founder of performance ensemble, La Maricolectiva, a community based performance group of queer undocumented poets.

This event is co-hosted by Leadership Without Border, the Q Center,  ASUW La Raza Student Commission, and ASUW Queer Student Commission.
