To search :

After having finished my bachelor’s degree in French at the University of Washington in 2011, I started to work in the technology field. It takes a minimum of three months to be up to speed in a new job position and for me the learning curve was even more intimidating than usual, as I had a lot of new vocabulary to learn in my native language, and at the same time I had to learn it in French. It was overwhelming, and I spent all my time, frantic, on Google, searching for what seemed like simple words to respond to emails that discussed apps or how to restart a computer.

All good ideas are born of necessity, so when I came back to the UW for my master’s degree and was faced with choosing my final project, I knew that I wanted to somehow integrate my last six years of experience in technology with the methodology that we already use in our language courses to help with this issue. I sincerely hope that this website will be useful for our students during their time at the university, when they begin a new internship, or during their first job after graduation. Even if one person’s life is made easier by having access to this information, if someone can save time during their new phase in life, that would be a win for me, and worth the hard work I put into creating it.

Après avoir fini ma licence en français à l’Université de Washington en 2011, j’ai commencé à travailler dans le domaine de la technologie. On dit qu’il faut au moins trois mois pour être compétent dans un nouveau poste et pour moi, la courbe de l’apprentissage était beaucoup plus intimidante parce que j’avais le vocabulaire de mon travail à apprendre dans ma langue maternelle à apprendre, mais en même temps, j’ai dû l’apprendre en français aussi. C’était accablant et j’ai passé tout mon temps, débordée, sur Google à chercher des mots simples pour avoir la compétence nécessaire pour pouvoir répondre à un email qui parlait d’une appli ou comment redémarrer un ordinateur.

Toutes les bonnes idées sont le fruit de nécessité, alors quand je suis revenue à UW pour ma maitrise et j’ai su qu’il faut choisir mon projet final, je savais que je voulais intégrer mes six dernières années d’expérience dans ce domaine avec la méthodologie qu’on a déjà dans nos cours d’une manière ou d’une autre pour améliorer cette question. J’espère que ce site sera utile pour nos étudiants pendant leurs études à l’université, quand ils feront leur premier stage ou quand ils auront leur premier poste après avoir reçu leur diplôme. Si seulement une personne est soulagée par l’accès au vocabulaire, si quelqu’un peut mieux économiser du temps dans la prochaine phase de leur vie, ce sera une victoire pour moi et l’effort que j’ai déployé en aura valu la peine.
