Environmental Studies major!

If you haven’t heard yet, Environmental Studies has a new web page!  If that isn’t excitement enough, here’s the url so you can check it out yourself:  https://envstudies.uw.edu/

Environmental Studies offers an interdisciplinary B.A. degree. This means that students take a range of courses from other departments, but we still find ways to build a strong community here in Wallace Hall.  If you’ve never been here, I encourage you to stop in and check out our digs – we have a wonderful space where students can work on group projects, host events, and make presentations.  We’d love to have you visit!

The Environmental Studies curriculum is divided into 4 areas:

Core courses – 4 core courses (ENVIR 100, 200, 250, 300)

Foundations – 40 credits of restricted electives that cover analytical methods, biology, biological systems, chemistry, earth systems literacy, economics, statistics, and values & cultures.

Perspectives & Experiences – 30 credits must be earned at the upper-division level distributed across six focus areas:  human & social dimensions; bioregional; natural sciences; international; policy; and fieldwork.

Capstone – the senior capstone has an internship in the middle quarter offering students the opportunity to build real-world experience prior to graduation.

Quick tour of the new web page:

  • About: Faculty, Staff, News&Events, Contact Us…

Applications are now open for the 2015-16 Husky Leadership Certificate cohort. Through the  Husky Leadership Certificate (HLC), students identify, articulate, and demonstrate their leadership growth and accomplishments. Students create a leadership e-portfolio, and are matched with a mentor who helps the student reflect upon and give voice to their leadership development. Students must be a junior or senior to be considered.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3. Applicants will be notified by mid-November if they have been selected for the cohort, and will then be matched with a mentor. All HLC students are required to take a 1-credit winter quarter course (available in an in-person environment or online) to support their portfolio development process.

Please consider this unique opportunity for yourself and spread the word to other students who may be interested.

Apply now to be a part of the 2015-16 Husky Leadership Certificate cohort!
