Morka Fast Tracked @UW
Agata Morka completed her Art History PhD in 2011. She may have set a speed record for this endeavor since she started at the UW in 2007. Originally from Poland, Morka had received master’s degrees in Art History (Poland) and Culture Management (France) before coming to the United States. She also developed excellent language skills, with fluency in Polish, English, and French; intermediate knowledge of Russian; and reading knowledge of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. While here, she was supported by a Fulbright Grant, a Graduate School Fritz Fellowship for International Study and Exchange, and a Graduate School Presidential Dissertation Fellowship. She was a teaching assistant six times, with experience in each of the three Western art survey classes. She has a chapter, “Brief Encounters and Lasting Impressions: Contemporary Train Station Architecture,” in a recently-released book titled Trains, Culture, and Mobility: Riding the Rails. Morka returned to Poland after graduating and did freelance work until landing a position as a Publishing Executive at Versita, a scholarly publisher. She is working on a project involving Open Access scholarly monographs.
