BRI Attendance Policy

Attendance is recorded and subject to PHS review. Attendance is available on-line for department chairs and Principal Investigators to monitor their trainees' participation. While the Program is designed to cover all required PHG topics in a single annual cycle, trainees are allowed to participate in several BRI Programs over the course of their traineeship, permitting them a reasonable degree of flexibility in meeting the attendance requirement. Please refer to the BRI Mission Statement and the NIH Update on the Requirement for Instruction in the Responsible Conduct of Research

When you register for a discussion group, you are taking a spot needed by other trainees. We require 72 hour notice for cancellation if your plans change. If you do not cancel within this window, you will receive an unexcused absence. Of course, we understand there may be unexpected emergencies or illness requiring flexibility. If you receive two unexcused absences in one series, you will not be permitted to sign up for additional discussion groups and we will contact your faculty advisor for alternative arrangements.

To receive attendance credit for lectures and discussion groups, you must:

  1. Arrive no later than 10 minutes past the event start time. At 10 minutes past, the doors will be closed, no late admittance will be allowed.
  2. Check in with an administrator. For lectures, you may also do this by submitting an electronic form on a tablet. For discussion groups, you must sign in / initial your name on the printed roster.

Note: You must be registered for UWBRI and specific lectures/discussion groups in order to have your attendance recorded in our database.
