The mucosal microbiome plays a vital role in HIV susceptibility and pathogenesis and may influence immunity to pathogens and vaccinations. The Microbiome Core brings the following expertise:
- Hypothesis generation and protocol development for studies incorporating the microbiome
- Amplicon sequencing of bacterial and fungal communities
- Shotgun metagenomics of DNA communities (including bacterial, fungal and viral)
- Sequencing of purified RNA and DNA viral populations at mucosal surfaces
- Assistance with data analytic methods and interpretation thereof
