Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Preventions at UW Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center

Updated for Spring Quarter, 2022

Here at the Kelly ECC, we want to be as proactive as possible and do our best to minimize risk within our inclusive “Home Away From Home” space here at the UW.  We are closely monitoring announcements and suggestions from the Center for Disease Control and King County’s Department of Public Health.  Our community’s health and safety is our top concern, and we hope to stay up to date on how we all can proceed together with the utmost safety and precaution.

We are excited to open our doors again for our UW and Kelly ECC Community.  As we continue to Bring Back the Pack to the UW, please note that we will be operating under the guidelines of UW’s health and safety guidelines surrounding the coronavirus.  Some of these include:

  • Vaccination requirements for all at UW unless given medical or religious exemption
  • Face coverings are recommended indoors
  • Limitation of food/drink consumption at the ECC
    • Food/drink consumption will be ok for all open spaces
    • Reservations and meeting in rooms must adhere to food policies, including getting a temporary food permit for any catered food from UW Environmental Health and Safety (~2 week processing time)
  • Reservations/meetings must adhere to capacity limits of rooms

We’re excited to be back and we hope you do your part to keep our community healthy!

Help us minimize risk:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, & mouth) with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.  Cough/Sneeze into the crease of your elbow if no tissue is available, and please disinfect the area afterwards.
  • If you feel unwell, are coughing, short of breath or have a fever, please stay home and wait until you have been symptom free.  Allow yourself the time to rest and take any necessary steps needs to heal.
  • Minimize unnecessary contact.  That handshake, high-five, hug, fist-bump, etc. can wait.  We respect and love you, and I’m sure others will understand and share the same sentiment!
