Civic Engagement

About

The ECC and OMA&D is committed to encouraging our community to participate and practice our civic responsibilities. We aim to provide individuals and student organizations with tools and resources about the civic process in the United States.

Civic Engagement focuses on three main components:

  • Educating about the political process, student rights, and how students can get involved
  • Informing about the latest issues and news in the political arena
  • Connecting our community to the political apparatus so that we can help make social change through change in policy and law.

What is Civic Engagement?

Civic engagement involves “working to make a difference in the civic life of one’s community and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.”

Excerpts from Civic Responsibility and Higher Education, edited by Thomas Ehrlich, published by Oryx Press, 2000.
